Amerikaanse speelfilm uit 1994 van regisseur Edward Zwick. Met Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins e.v.a. Gebaseerd op de novelle van Jim Harrison. Ex-kolonel William Ludlow leeft met zijn drie zonen op een ranch in Montana in 1913. De jongste van de zonen heeft een beeldschone verloofde die voor veel strijd zorgt tussen de twee andere broers als de eerste sneuvelt tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog. De recensenten van de dagbladen zijn bepaald niet positief over deze film. Ze vinden hem te sentimenteel, te glad gemaakt en ongeïnspireerd. Wel prachtige natuuropnamen en goed geacteerd. De film was mede door Pitt een groot bioscoopsucces. Peter Travers (Rolling Stone): 'What makes Legends such an entertaining male weepie is the star shine. Though the admirable Quinn has the toughest role, Pitt carries the picture. Edward M. Zwick (born October 8, 1952) is an American filmmaker and producer of film and television. He has worked primarily in the comedy-drama and epic historical film genres, including About Last Night, Glory, Legends of the Fall, and The Last Samurai. He is also the co-creator of the television series thirtysomething and Once and Again.

Zwick's prolific body of work has earned numerous accolades, including an Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Picture as a producer, and Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series, and Outstanding Dramatic Special. He has additionally been nominated for multiple Golden Globe Awards.
