Gregor Justin "Gore" Verbinski (born March 16, 1964) is an American filmmaker and musician. He is best known for directing Mouse Hunt (1997), The Ring (2002), the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films (2003–2007), and the animated film Rango (2011). For his work on Rango, Verbinski won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

Early life

Verbinski was born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the fourth of five children of Laurette Ann (née McGovern) and Victor Vincent Verbinski, a nuclear physicist. His father was of Polish descent.
