De Zweedse cineast Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) maakte tussen 1946 en 1984 zo'n vijftig films, waaronder bekende als Fanny & Alexander, Herfstsonate en Scènes uit een huwelijk. In de jaren zestig en zeventig had hij veel invloed op andere regisseurs. Deze verzamelbox bevat drie minder bekende films: Skammen (1968) met in de hoofdrollen Liv Ullmann en Max von Sydow, The passion of Anna (1969) met Max von Sydow en Liv Ullman en The serpent's egg (1977) met David Carradine en Liv Ullman. Deze laatste film is Bergman's enige Hollywoodfilm, Engels gesproken. De Speelfilmencyclopedie (zesde editie, 1995) schreef over Skammen (Schande): '(...) Bergmans poging tot (symbolisch) politiek engagement krijgt weinig overtuigingskracht, hoewel afzonderlijke scènes en acteursprestaties vaak zeer indringend zijn. Sven Nykvist was de cameraman.' Films voor de echte liefhebber. Er zijn geen extra's.

Ernst Ingmar Bergman (14 July 1918 – 30 July 2007) was a Swedish film director, screenwriter, producer and playwright. Universally ranked among the most accomplished and influential filmmakers of all time, Bergman's films include The Seventh Seal, Persona, and Fanny and Alexander.

Bergman directed over sixty films and documentaries for cinematic release and for television screenings, most of which he also wrote. His theatrical career continued in parallel and included periods as Leading Director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm and of the Residenztheater in Munich. He also directed over 170 plays. He forged a creative partnership with his cinematographers Gunnar Fischer and Sven Nykvist. Among his company of actors were Harriet Andersson, Bibi Andersson, Liv Ullmann, Gunnar Björnstrand, Erland Josephson, Ingrid Thulin, and Max von Sydow.
