Amerikaanse romantische komedie van Peter Chelsom (Serendipity) uit 2004, met Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez en Susan Sarandon. Remake van de succesvolle Japanse film 'Shall we dance?'* van Masayuki Suo uit 1998. Workaholic John Clark leidt een saai leventje, maar als hij op een nacht dansles krijgt van een beeldschone vrouw (Lopez) verandert zijn leven volkomen. De pers is niet erg enthousiast over deze film. BBC Film Reviews geeft 2 (van 5) sterren: 'While this foxtrot won't take your breath away, Gere is unusually endearing in his middle-aged akwardness. As a closeted salsa freak with a spray-on tan, Stanley Tucci also lifts proceedings, but Lopez is a weak link in the chain. (...) Peter Chelsom (born 20 April 1956) is a British film director, writer, and actor. He has directed such films as Hector and the Search for Happiness, Serendipity, and Shall We Dance? Peter Chelsom is a member of the British Academy, the American Academy, The Directors Guild of America, and The Writers Guild of America.

Early life

Chelsom was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, the son of antiques shop owners Kay and Reginald Chelsom. He was educated at Wrekin College (1969-1973) and later studied at the Central School of Drama in London. He has dual citizenship in the US and the UK, and is an Honorary Citizen of the small town Fivizzano in Tuscany.
