Elf regisseurs uit verschillende landen en culturen van de wereld zijn gevraagd door de Franse initiatiefnemer Alain Brigand hun visie te geven op de gebeurtenissen van 11 september 2001. In korte films van ieder 11 minuten een impressie van Samira Makhmalbaf, Claude Lelouch, Youssef Chahine, Danis Tanivic, Idrissa Ouedraogo, Ken Loach, Alejandro Gonzalez, Inarrituamos Gitaï, Mira Nair, Sean Penn, Shohei Imamura. De pers is wisselend in zijn oordeel en vindt dat voorkennis omtrent het werk van de regisseurs soms nodig is om de film in de juiste context te plaatsen. Amerikaanse kranten vinden de films interessant maar hebben moeite met de soms onverholen kritiek op de Amerikanen. De films werden vertoond op verschillende filmfestivals waaronder Venetië 2002 en werden verboden in de Verenigde Staten.

Samira Makhmalbaf (Persian: سمیرا مخملباف‎, Samira Makhmalbaaf) (born February 15, 1980) is an Iranian filmmaker and script writer. She is the daughter of Mohsen Makhmalbaf, the film director and writer. Samira Makhmalbaf is considered to be part of the Iranian New Wave.

Early life

Samira Makhmalbaf was born February 15, 1980 in Tehran, Iran to filmmaker, Mohsen Makhmalbaf. As a child, she joined her father on his film sets and watch him edit afterwards. In her official biography, Makhmalbaf stated that her first taste for cinema came as a 7 year old, when she played a role in her father's film The Cyclist in 1987. Makhmalbaf left high school when she was 14 years old to study cinema in the Makhmalbaf Film House for five years. At the age of 20, she studied Psychology and Law at Roehampton University in London.
