Amerikaanse speelfilm onder regie van Charles S. Dutton uit 2003, met o.a. Meg Ryan, Omar Epps en Charles S. Dutton. Gebaseerd op een waargebeurd verhaal. De nieuwe en doortastende boxmanager Jackie Kallen (Ryan) is vastbesloten om van de ordinaire vechtersbaas "Lethal" Luther Shaw (Epps) een beroepsboxer van wereldklasse te maken. Ze haalt de gepensioneerde trainer Felix Reynolds (Dutton) over om mee te doen. Ze slaagt in haar opzet maar komt daardoor wel voor een keuze te staan tussen enerzijds haar principes en anderzijds het grote geld. James Berardinelli (ReelViews, i): 'The degree to which Against the Ropes succeeds depends on what you're expecting from it. There are cracks in the foundation, but it is nevertheless a surprisingly watchable production. It succeeds in many of the ways a sports movie should, and, by employing a slightly different viewpoint for most of the production, manages a sense of freshness.'
